By placing these lesser known NYC monuments in the center stage of Rockefeller Center, where they can easily be accessed by millions of visitors, my flag works honor the unsung members of NYC history. Inviting native New Yorkers and visitors alike to dig deeper into the complexity of our past, engage and inform themselves of the need for equity in representation. My organization and juxtaposition of these iconic statues reimagines the monuments in a conversation grappling with these inequities and unjust pasts.
